Calendar Bulk Upload

08/06/2024

One thing about me?

I'm going to tell you to keep your calendars updated every chance I get. If you don't do anything else... if you use no other tech, stay on your calendar.

My favorite calendar accessory is this bulk upload csv file, and I want to share it with you.

One way I've used it made a list of my bills and expenses, put in the next billing date then uploaded the file to a calendar I have called "Due Dates". It makes it super easy for me to stay on top of what's due next.

You can also use it for birthdays and other occasions, domain renewals (if you have a lot, like me)... you get the gist.

Below is the walk-through of completing the Sheet and converting it to .csv, then uploading to Google Calendar. You'll want to create any sub-calendars that you want to use first.

The Transcript

0:02 Okay, this is a, uh, sheets, CSV upload file for Google calendar so that, um, I can do bulk uploads for the example, for an example of what I'm using this one for it is a spreadsheet that includes the domains that I own and their renewal dates, and I'm going to add them to their own calendar, um, in

0:36 Google calendar. So the subject and the start date on mandatory, you have to fill those out. The date needs to be formatted as month, day, four digit year.

0:50 Um, if for whatever reason it switches because you copied and pasted, once you're finished, just highlight it and then go to format number and go down to the date.

1:05 Okay. Now, if you want to include times, then you can use the 24 hours slash military clock, or you type in the time with the am PM.

1:22 Okay. Or you can use the 23, let's see if 2345 translate.

1:29 It does not. So format number 3:59 PM. It does not. Okay. Cause that is not what 2345 looks like, but if I do 23, colon 45.

1:50 Okay. So that's a 24 hour clock, not military. So anyway, um, these are all the events for me. So they're going in as true.

2:01 Um, what I might add for actual description or location is the link to the registrar because not all my domain domains are registered with the same registrar or in the same account, so I can make those notes within that.

2:20 Um, but for all intents and purposes of this exercise, I just use the URL as a subject and then a date and make sure I have the date, the time comes out, but I do mark them as true for all the events.

2:35 So once I finish filling it out, I'll go to file, download CSV, and then save it to my computer. One thing you need to remember is that any other cells that you are not using, just highlight them and hit delete, um, because CSVs are really sensitive and then Google won't pick it up.

2:59 So then in Google calendar, I'm going to go to settings and scroll to import and export. So now I'm going to select my file from my computer and that's the calendar I want to use.

3:23 And then domains is the calendar I want it to go to and let's cross our fingers that it works.

3:31 And then it works. If I have 40 minutes, it imported them all. Um, I think I have one that says January, August LSE, it's C um, oh, I got to December.

3:49 So let's just see if December is in here and that's October, November, December, and there it goes. So that's my domain.

4:08 All right. And that is how I import to Google calendar.
